Overflow Shelter needs hosts!

interfaithHOMELESS OVERFLOW SHELTER: updates and…can you help?

For many years, as part of Interfaith Works, St Michael parishioners have been volunteering hosting the women’s homeless shelter. The shelter, now at First Christian Church downtown, has expanded and is now open to men and women. Here is an update from the shelter coordinator, Meg Martin:

“The Interfaith Emergency Overnight Shelter at First Christian Church is going very well! We are in our third month of operations, at full occupancy every night, and connecting people to vital resources in order to move out of homelessness. We have behavioral health outreach workers that come each week, the ability to fast track people into appointments for chemical dependency resources and rapid rehousing and are able to swiftly enroll people in healthcare services. In partnership with so many in the community, we have successfully created a coordinated, highly accessible shelter for our most vulnerable adults for the first time in our city. Thank you for being a part of it!”

St. Michael parish will be responsible for providing shelter hosts from February 15th to the 28th . Volunteers are asked to stay from 5 to 10 pm. If you are interested in helping, please contact Bene Reece at 360-292-7143 or breece@saintmichaelparish.org
