Fr. Jim and ALS

On the weekend of January 6/7, 2018, on the Feast of the Epiphany, Fr. Jim Lee announced at all Masses that he has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

As Fr. Jim said, ALS is a progressive nervous system disease that destroys the nerve cells and eventually causes disability and total paralysis. Doctors do not know why ALS occurs, nor is there any real effective treatment for the disease. His care is being provided by a team of doctors at the ALS Clinic at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
